The Key to Writing Great Short Stories
Hi
I wonder if any these points explain why George R R Martin's novels are so much behind schedule. Many people speculate that other projects are constant distractions to him.
Thank you!! Finally I might be ablo to finish what I've started!!
thank you so useful and informative..
Magistral, merci
I suggest reading How to Say Babylon by Safiya Sinclair. It’s a perfect example of what you describe as a good memoir. In fact that’s how I found this channel. I’m inspired to finally write a memoir.
Merci!
Damn dude broke me down within the first minute. “Told you always have a way with words” want to do the thing, ready to do the thing, but ideas are too vague and where tf to even start
I am not writing a book. But, this is sage wisdom to follow through in any profession. Thank You for sharing this. It is actually helpful and makes sense!
Don’t ever try assume how I eat elephants! 2:22
Merci!
Silver tipped artestry young man, thanks!
Ummm this guy isn't good at this at all how horrible
Thank you sir !
Very genuine advice. Super practical and helpful.
I would recommend skipping the 'ancient' classics and focus instead on studying modern, award-winning stories. Modern stories are the ones being purchased and sold today. Pattern your learning after those.
Very helpful information for a new potential author.
GOLD
My problem is that the protagonist view others in an unreliable matter, so I want to show their pov of that character and the characters real self.
so majority of us came here because we all are struggling haha. nice video, helped to understand how to write a villain story.
Thank you Jerry for sharing this video. 1. Questioning your original idea 2. Another idea has distracted you 3. You're too eager to get to your ending Establishing setups that demand payoffs Managing Writer's Fear
I was transitioning from third to fourth grade, and that summer was quite long, not only because of the military coup but also because of the events that surrounded me during it. I had decided during that vacation to start reading, so I borrowed a book from my friend Ahmed Weld Salk. However, my laziness prevented me from reading more than a couple of pages, and instead, I spent most of the day playing football, a sport I wasn't particularly good at, as we had no other plans at the time. Despite my lack of skill, I managed to score a goal for my team, beat the other team, and win the cup, which was a can of concentrated milk. We celebrated by taking turns sipping the drops of "Gloria"-the "sweetness" of our victory.
Big thanks for these steps sir Jerry. I am an aspiring writer a actually wrote one novel in our own language. And I sent it to a publishing house. I never heard from them since then. So I thought probably that novel is a fail. But the steps you shared will have a big impact on my writing.
Thank you sir, I’m starting my first novel and your videos have helped me avoid pitfalls before I could even fall into them. I would have described too much had I not seen this video. God bless you!
This is wonderful. And his keyboard is the most amazing thing I've seen since the eclipse. ❤
Jerry, I am so blessed to find your channel. I am a new writer, and I love your content, its very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you, Mr Jenkins, I appreciate your generosity in sharing tips. I need these tips to complete my first novel. Thank you so much!
May I ask what category of complex villains does Hans Landa fall into? Noble? Pitiable? Well-meaning? Or maybe he's straight up one-dimensional? Joker from Dark Knight - is he one-dimensional as well? Because I'm pretty sure he does not belong to any of aforementioned categories. I'm not an expert but it seems to me that there are lots of villains out there who are outright evil but are still quite complex nevertheless. Dunno, maybe it's just me.
Very inspiring to watch! It'd be great to see more of these types of behind-the-scenes and writer routine videos.
Get a tripod.
I just recently started writing my book and was dreading the middle till yesterday evening when I suddenly got a very good idea and now it is the part I look forward to the most, I guess you could say I am in the marathon of the beginning now
Thanks Jenkin... I will start with your guidance. Its very helpful...
you were quite good looking when you were young (off-topic, I know). You still look fit. Anyway, thanks for the tips.
I have ever listened to a class this interestingly 👏
This changed my life!!!! Thank you<3
I think the only person to really pull off the every chapter a different perspective is GRRM. While I enjoy it while reading… it’s also a bit frustrating because some important parts of the narrative are left up to being described secondary by another character and you don’t get to see it.
It’s such a beautiful gift when someone so successful is willing to freely give advice like this to others! Thank you Jerry you are a treasure!
Great presentation thanks!
Thank you
I appreciate the clarification on the difference between omniscient and limited third person perspectives. I have been struggling with the omniscient perspective and the authority it requires in descriptions of characters and settings. That has caused me to spend more time on world building than I really want to. I do not want to use first-person, (perspective), for my mc because that does not allow me to flesh out my other characters the way I want to; especially antagonistic ones. With a deep sigh and a small shake of his head, Will considers the effort he must employ, and perhaps even enjoy, on extensive revision of his written work, due to a short, informative, and well received video by Jerry Jenkins. Thanks Jerry.
Thank you❤
I want to be a writer /author. I will come back in this comment
You've got some basic misunderstandings about what an antihero is. You seem to mistake any protagonist that's not a full hero for an antihero. To be an antihero you actually have to be a hero, and not every protagonist is a hero. Long ago the two were identical writing, you would say "Oh, so who's your hero?" but it's just not accurate anymore. Hannibal Lector is not an antihero. He is a complete villain. Making an evil character likable doesnt suddenly make them a hero. Same goes for Walter White. He's a villain protagonist. That's the word you're looking for: villain protagonist.
Jerry, I appreciate your lectures. I got a late start in writing. I just finished my second book.
I get smarter just from Jerry's concise speaking style, before I even listen to the words themselves.
I come back to this video once in a while to motivate myself to keep searching for my dream and passion.
Very helpful thank you very much
I can’t believe all this advice is free
Step 1: establish a space.... Well crap!
You'll get the most out of what is said in the video if you've read, "The Most Dangerous Game". I had just finished it and continued the video. The steps make complete sense as you reflect on why the Dangerous Game worked so well.
